Entries in fast casual rooms now do three jobs: queue, wait and pickup. Most layouts solve that with a bench here and a pickup shelf there, both eating floor near the door. The Gate does both jobs in one footprint and screens the dining room from the entry while it is at it.
Waiting face. An upholstered bench at 17.7 in (45 cm) seat height with a deliberately shallow 15.7 in (40 cm) seat and a low 13.8 in (35 cm) back. It is comfortable for a short wait but not for camping out.
Pickup face. A 36 in (91 cm) high counter, 17.7 in (45 cm) deep, with three open cubbies below for labelled orders, framed in steel with wood shelves.
Construction. Single plywood and hardwood body with steel cubby frames, high-resilience foam bench, contract vinyl or fabric, and a durable counter top in wood veneer, laminate or solid surface.
Where it works. Entries of fast casual and coffee concepts with heavy third-party delivery and pickup traffic.
